“The Coalition for Science Learning in Early Childhood, CSLEC, is one of more than a dozen ECECD-funded coalitions in New Mexico. Housed at Explora in Albuquerque, CSLEC focuses on inspiring the next generation of inventors and thinkers and supporting families and early childhood professionals with resources and community. Victoria Roanhorse, the CSLEC coalition manager, supports three efforts within the coalition. They include a Brillante Planning group, focused on offering childcare for families in the area, a professional development working group, and a families working group. Coalition members are asked to find a group that aligns with their work, expertise, or interest.
Although located in Albuquerque, CSLEC's goal is to bring STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics) learning to every child in New Mexico. They hope to accomplish this by hosting statewide events and a summit focused on sharing best practices.
Coalition members are passionate about STEAM learning, but they also see a need for professionals to unite. As one member puts it, "We want to remove silos in the community. We want to be a place where people come together, work together, have fun together, and support children together."
