Family Development Program Goes Abroad to Melbourne, Australia

In August 2017, the Family Development Program’s Director Lois Vermilya was invited to work with primary schools in Melbourne, Australia, to support children’s learning through play.  Our host Leon Bell, the principal of Thornbury Primary School, also sponsored a two day Early Childhood Leadership Institute for 25 colleagues to explore how the Family Development Program’s Early Childhood Leadership Tool Kit could add value to their educational efforts. This new contract work grows out of years of hosting Aussie study tours for George Otero, Executive Director of the Center for RelationaLearning in Santa Fe, NM.  Australian educators visit Wemagination where we weave parent/educator leadership strategies into a dynamic hands-on play and learning session.  New opportunities for continued collaboration with educators in Australia will support shared goals for building a continuum of learning that starts at birth through the Family Development Program’s continued partnership with George Otero who has consulted with Australian schools for the past 20 years.
